Time to get engaged in the political process

The president of Indiana Farm Bureau says there is a lot riding on the November election and it is critical for members to be engaged with the candidates.

Randy Kron says sometimes legislators don’t realize the impact their decisions make on farming operations.  “By having them out on a farm and seeing that we have a passion and we care about agriculture and that we want to be good stewards – I think that goes a long way for them when they’re making legislative decisions,” he says.  “We hope they at least reach out to our members and ask them how it will impact you.”

Kron tells Brownfield there are some big issues that impact agriculture that need to be addressed in the next legislature.  “Infrastructure, road funding is one that is really, really critical,” he says.  “And over-regulation.  We need to be able to farm without being regulated out of business.”

Members of Indiana’s agricultural community had the opportunity to interact with several candidates in the upcoming election at the organization’s Before the Harvest event Tuesday night.

The state’s three gubernatorial candidates were also featured to discuss their position on the state’s agricultural issues.
