Three Minnesota cooperatives will merge in August

Three Minnesota cooperatives will merge later this year.

Members of Farmers Cooperative Association of Canby, Lyon County Farm Service of Ghent, and Prairie Pride Cooperative of Marshall voted in favor of unifying the co-ops during a special meeting Thursday.

Prairie Pride general manager Emmett Thomsen says the move protects equity and gives the cooperatives the ability to find and keep the best-quality employees.

He adds the merger has been in the works for nearly two years, and the yet-to-be-named new cooperative will begin operations August 1st
