Thompson discusses importance of restoring, rebuilding rural America

Congressman Glenn GT Thompson says his vision for the House Ag Committee in terms of policy is to restore a robust rural economy and rebuild rural America.

“That means every farm family is doing well, we need to have rural communities be financially viable and it starts with agriculture,” he says. “Number two, my second vision is it’s time to repopulate and rebuild rural America.”

Thompson, of Pennsylvania, says improving and expanding broadband access will help achieve that goal.

“That jurisdiction is spread across numerous administrative departments in Washington and we certainly have states working on it and local economic development folks working on it,” he says. “We really need to coordinate that so they’re all pointing in the right direction and we need to focus on last-mile connectivity.”

Thompson is an active member of the House Agriculture Committee and is ranking member of the general farm commodities and risk management subcommittee. He also serves on the livestock and foreign agriculture subcommittee and the biotechnology, horticulture, and research subcommittee.

  • I am glad to see that you are an active member of the House Agriculture Committee and are a ranking member of the general farm commodities and risk management subcommittee. It is also good to see that you serve on the livestock and foreign agriculture subcommittee and the biotechnology, horticulture, and research subcommittee. With this in mind is there any truth that Smithfield Farms (Our largest hog producer) was sold to a Chinese firm and if so was there anything that you could have done to halt this transaction. Thank you for all that you do for us.
