The growing importance of Wisconsin agriculture

New numbers from the Census of Agriculture show agriculture has an even bigger impact on the Wisconsin economy than before. “Wisconsin agriculture is now a 59.6 billion-dollar industry,” says Alice in Dairyland Cheryl O’Brien, “that’s up from 51.5 billion.” O’Brien notes the dairy industry alone contributes $26.5 billion of that, “That’s $800 a second that just the dairy industry in contributing to the economy.”

She uses the numbers when making presentations throughout the state and finds people are quite surprised with just how big agriculture is in the state. “It’s our state’s largest industry, it really is important to every single person!”
