The 2020 Ohio State Fair has been cancelled

The Ohio Expositions Commission voted today to cancel the Ohio State Fair. The fair was originally scheduled for July 29-August 9.

Members of the commission expressed concern for public health because of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the “financial feasibility of hosting a socially distant fair.”

Andy Doehrel, chair of the commission, said they decided to cancel the fair knowing how easily the virus spreads in large groups and knowing that the financial ramifications of hosting a reduced-capacity fair would be too great.

The Ohio State Fair management team says it will share more information about the fair’s digital content in coming weeks. The Ohio Expositions Commission says it is focused on developing a strategy to responsibly reopen its year-round facilities when appropriate and welcome guests back in 2021.

More than 934,000 people attended the Ohio State Fair last year.

The 2021 state fair is set for July 28-August 8.
