Tennessee planting update: 42% corn and 9% soybeans planted

Planting pace is picking up for Tennessee farmers.  Corn is 42% planted, 21% behind last year’s pace and 13% behind the 5-year average.  Ten percent of the crop has emerged. Soybeans are 9% planted slightly behind last year’s pace and the 5-year average.  Cotton is 3% planted.

Wheat conditions across much of the state are mostly good with 69% of the crop rated good to excellent and 94% is jointed with 56% headed.

Hay and forage supplies are rated 74% adequate to surplus. 

Eighty-three percent of the apple crop is in full bloom. Seventy-four percent of strawberries are rated good to excellent. Pastures are rated 59% good to excellent. 

Topsoil moisture is 92% and subsoil moisture is 94% adequate to surplus.
