Tennessee crops: 79% corn and 23% cotton planted

Drier weather helped farmers make some planting progress this past week.  Across the state, farmers made progress on corn, cotton, and soybean planting in the drier areas. 

Seventy-nine percent of the state’s corn crop has been planted and 60 percent emerged.  Twenty-nine percent of soybeans have been planted and 14 percent emerged.  Twenty-three percent of the cotton crop has been planted.  Ninety-nine percent of the wheat crop is headed.  Sixty-one percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Sixty-eight percent of pastures are rated good to excellent.

Some vegetable crops were damaged from the previous week’s cold snap. 

99 percent of Topsoil and 99 percent of Subsoil are called adequate to surplus.
