Tennessee crops: 20% soybeans, 10% cotton planted

Wet, cold weather in parts of the state slowed planting progress this past week.  In West Tennessee, farmers slowed cotton planting and turned their attention to corn and soybean as long as the weather allowed.  Forecasted freezing temps in Middle Tennessee had producers delaying setting tobacco and cutting hay. 

Sixty-seven percent of the state’s corn crop has been planted and 44 percent emerged.  Twenty percent of soybeans have been planted and six percent emerged.  Ten percent of the cotton crop has been planted.  Ninety-two percent of the wheat crop is headed.  Sixty-two percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Ninety-two percent of apples are in full bloom.  66 percent of strawberries are rated good to excellent. 

Sixty-six percent of pastures are rated good to excellent.

100 percent of Topsoil and 99 percent of Subsoil are called adequate to surplus.
