TB confirmed in Northern Michigan

The Michigan Department of Agriculture has confirmed a small beef herd positive for bovine tuberculosis (TB) in Northern Michigan.

The Alcona County herd tested positive during recent routine testing. Alcona is in a Modified Accredited Zone where four northern Michigan counties regularly test for TB annually and before transporting animals off of farms.

This is the 69th confirmed herd in Michigan since 1998.

Beef and dairy cattle producers in Alcona and Alpena are invited to a meeting April 25th at the Hubbard Lake Community Center to learn how the discovery might impact their farms.

Bovine TB is an infectious bacterial disease affecting cattle and white-tailed deer that can affect the lungs, lymph nodes, and other parts of the body.
