Take that, Bud Light–Iowa brewery makes a beer with corn

An Iowa brewery has created a seasonal craft beer made from corn.

Peace Tree Brewing, which is based in Knoxville, Iowa, calls their corn-based beer Cornucopia.  Knoxville-area farmer and Iowa Corn Growers Association director Steve Kuiper provided around 25 bushels of #2 yellow corn to be used in the brewing process. While it’s not a large quantity, Kuiper says it has generated some positive publicity for Iowa corn.

“With the stuff that went on earlier in the year with the Bud Light commercials…I think it was a great opportunity to get a positive message out there,” Kuiper says.

Kuiper says he also got to help with the brewing of the beer.

“It was kind of cool having a product that you’ve raised, being able to see the end product that it goes into and what they’ve done with it.”

The Iowa Corn Growers Association partnered with Peace Tree Brewing on the project. The brewery has locations in Knoxville, Grinnell and Des Moines.
