Structural problem closes Illinois State Fair Coliseum

The Illinois State Fairgrounds Coliseum is temporarily closed because of a structural problem.  State Fair Communications Manager Rebecca Clark tells Brownfield that Capital Development Board engineers decided to close the building until structural issues are addressed.  Clark says a displaced beam discovered a couple of weeks ago led to the closure.  She says Illinois Ag Department officials are waiting for an engineering report to determine the extent of damage and the best course of action.

Only two events are scheduled in the 115-year-old facility until the end of the year.  Clark says officials are working to relocate those events.

She says officials can’t speculate on the future of the coliseum until the engineers’ report is complete.
