Storms move across Minnesota Monday night

Storms brought heavy rains, strong winds, and hail through parts of Minnesota Monday night.

West-central Minnesota farmer Chad Willis says one of his rain gauges showed three inches.

“But as I pointed out on Facebook, that gauge is from USDA. So that could make it a little higher. But yeah, the neighbors (had) anywhere from 2 to 3+ inches.”

The Willmar corn and soybean grower tells Brownfield there was some small hail and winds he feared would damage crops.

“But I went for a drive this morning and the crops are amazingly resilient and look pretty good. Even on the northern sides of the field, you’d think the corn would’ve been blown down, but it was standing pretty good yet. So I was pretty amazed at that.”

He says his crops are about two weeks behind and he probably won’t be able to start corn harvest until the middle of October.
