Stored grain losses included in expanded disaster proposal

The House Appropriations Committee has released an expanded disaster aid bill that includes a provision to compensate producers who had stored grain destroyed by recent flooding.

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley told reporters Tuesday he expects the Senate bill will also be revised.

“I’ve been told by the leadership of the Appropriations Committee it will be changed to take care of the grain that’s stored,” Grassley said.

The Senate remains deadlocked over the disaster aid package, however, with Democrats and Republicans unable to agree on additional disaster funding for Puerto Rico.

Congress is scheduled to begin its two-week Easter recess on Friday.
