Stone X: Fertilizer prices continue to drop
Fertilizer prices have declined this summer and an expert is optimistic that trend will continue.
Josh Linville with Stone X says the fertilizer market has fallen back near historical averages and that could help improve farmers’ bottom lines.
“It’s incredible when you start to look back at where we were the last two years,” he said. “If you look at where prices are today, we’ve kind of completed the cycle.”
He tells Brownfield one way producers can manage risk is to buy fertilizer and sell corn together.
“Just because the price of fertilizer looks good today doesn’t mean it’s going to look good in two or three months’ time if grain prices continue to fall like they have been.”
Linville says heading into the fall, farmers need to be in contact with retailers regarding price and availability.
