State specific dicamba label changes in mind for Illinois Ag Department

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has expressed interest in pursuing state specific additions to the federal dicamba label for 2021.

In a statement to Brownfield the department says they are working with the U.S. EPA, registrants, and stakeholders to formalize a June 20th cut-off date and an 85-degree temperature restriction in addition to the new federal label requirements. The department must go through a new process to have the regulations approved by the EPA. If approved, the application deadline and temperature restriction would be the same last year for Illinois farmers.

As the state with the most soybean acres, Illinois has been a hub for dicamba drift in recent years, but data from IDOA shows the number of dicamba related misuse complaints issued this year dropped substantially to 148, down from a record 723 complaints in 2019.
