State FSA Director says CFAP has helped many farmers stay viable

Wisconsin’s state FSA Director says the CFAP program has had a significant positive impact on ag producers.  Sandy Chalmers tells Brownfield CFAP 1 & 2 have helped absorb the blow of the pandemic on farm markets. “It is keeping farms viable for the future and it helps pick them up through just an absolutely unprecedented time in American agriculture.”

Chalmers says farmers prefer a good year with good markets, but with the impacts of COVID-19, the CFAP program has been a lifeline. “When you look at this on an individual family level, the impact, I mean, I don’t know how you can describe it. We’ve had people break down into tears when they hear what their payment will be.”

Chalmers says both rounds of CFAP have paid 965 million to Wisconsin farmers so far, with about 540 million of that for milk production.  She says nearly 19-thousand producers signed up for round one, and there are many signing up for round two now. The deadline to apply for CFAP2 is December 11th
