Stabenow on “positive” USMCA and trade issues

The ranking member of the Senate Ag Committee says the new U.S. Mexico-Canada trade agreement creates some stability in agriculture and is very positive for U.S. dairy, “Certainly, eliminating Canada’s Class 7 milk pricing is very positive. Enforcement is the critical part so I’ve been in briefings and been looking at details.”

Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow says enforcement of the updated NAFTA agreement will be crucial, “You know, words sound nice but if you can’t enforce it, it doesn’t matter.”

Stabenow tells Brownfield the aluminum and steel tariffs against Canada and Mexico and the China tariff war continuing are still a concern, “Everything kind of being thrown against the wall to see what sticks. And that’s what worries me the most.”

Stabenow says she supports going after China, and has done so in Michigan, on its intellectual property theft but the trade war along with the administration’s other actions on trade have created “real instability and upheaval.”
