Stabenow confident Senate infrastructure bill will pass

The Senate Ag Committee Chair says she’s confident the Senate infrastructure bill will pass as early as tomorrow, “I expect this piece to get all the way through and to the president’s desk and I expect the second part of the ‘Build Back Better’ agenda to get there as well.”

Senator Stabenow, a Michigan Democrat, on a call with reporters, says the infrastructure bill has a substantial amount for rural broadband expansion, “This is the first, really, major comprehensive effort to address high-speed internet and coming out of COVID we now understand just how essential this is.”

She says more than one-million people in Michigan, mostly in rural areas, don’t have broadband internet.

The Senate package also has $1-Billion for Great Lakes restoration, “Including giving us the additional resources as we’re moving forward to modernize the Soo Locks which is so very important.”

Michigan Senator Gary Peters told reporters it’s no question that infrastructure and the budget are a package deal and expects them both to get through in early fall.

Democrats released their $3.5 Trillion budget resolution today.
