Specialty Crop Block Grant Program seeking applicants

The USDA says by the end of 2023, the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program will have invested more than one billion dollars.

USDA Under Secretary Jenny Lester Moffitt tells Brownfield since 2006, the farm bill funds have supported more than 12,000 projects.

“USDA and our states and territories really work together to identify projects that are enhancing specialty crop consumption and production so that we have a thriving specialty crop industry,” she says.

The agency has $72.9 million of funding available for 2023 with applications open till May 1st.

Separately, $200 million is available for specialty crop producers to help cover on-farm food safety expenses.  Applications for the Food Safety Certification for Specialty Crops program for eligible 2022 costs are due next week and USDA will open applications for 2023 costs in February.
