Soybean harvest underway in Illinois

Soybean harvest is officially underway in Illinois.

The USDA reports as of Sunday 1% of the crop is harvested, ahead of last year, but slightly behind the five-year average. 66% of the crop is dropping leaves, compared to 37% on average and the crop is rated 54% good to excellent.

Corn harvest is 6% complete, in line with average, with 70% considered mature. The agency rates the Illinois corn crop 55% good to excellent, down slightly on the week.

Winter wheat planting is also underway with 8% complete, ahead of last year and the average.
