Southwest Minnesota farmer waiting for better conditions

Fieldwork is at a standstill for many farmers in the Upper Midwest.

Southwest Minnesota corn and soybean grower Bryan Biegler says recent heavy snow is melting rapidly.

“This week with the 70’s and 80’s (for temperatures) it’s really changed things a lot. Fields are pretty well opened up, we have some sitting water around but we didn’t have a lot of frost this winter so water is soaking away pretty good and (conditions) are coming around.”

He tells Brownfield it will probably be another week before conditions are fit.

“There’s a lot of snow up around the groves and in some of the fence lines yet, but we’ll see what the weather pans out as (and) maybe later into the following week if the weather is looking nice there might be some chances to be able to go.”

The Lake Wilson area farmer says the moisture is helpful after a very dry 2022.
