Southwest Minnesota farmer replanting after heavy rain

Farmers in southwest Minnesota are replanting after recent heavy rains.

Mike Landuyt of Walnut Grove says a storm dumped five inches a day after he finished corn planting.

“I ended up having to do some replanting on the corn. The beans that we had in before that rain, we thought there was going to be some issues, but they eventually made it through and the spots seemed to fill in.”

He tells Brownfield they’ll continue to monitor soybean emergence.

“We’re still waiting on some final overall stand counts because they just kind of seem to keep showing up. We had a lot of them up and then there’ve been some stragglers that keep coming, so hopefully this week we’ll get the final count on bean stands and see if we have to do anything there.”

Landuyt says the soil has plenty of moisture after a snowy winter and wet spring.
