Southwest Minnesota farmer done with silage

A southwest Minnesota farmer is done harvesting silage and moving on to soybeans.

Mike Landuyt of Walnut Grove says they finished chopping over the weekend.

“So we’ve got about 30 percent of our corn harvested and we just took one load of soybeans yesterday, but they’re not quite ready yet.”

He tells Brownfield the beans need another day or two and the corn looks about average.

“The corn filled late better than we thought it was going to, and silage appraisals that we’ve gotten so far were better than what we expected when we started. I’d say we’re going to run right with the last couple years.”

Landuyt says it was a dry summer with a few timely rains, especially late in the growing season.
