Southern Wisconsin weather slows fieldwork

Weather conditions impacted some fieldwork for some Wisconsin farmers last week.

USDA reporters say farmers in the northern part of the state had drier conditions and made more progress with planting.  Some southern Wisconsin regions had heavy rains, slowing progress.

Eighty-three percent of the Topsoil moisture in Wisconsin has adequate moisture and 9% has surplus moisture.

Ninety-four percent of Wisconsin’s corn is planted with 84% of the corn emerged.

Soybean planting is 93% finished with 76% of the beans emerging.

Planting for both oats and potatoes is 96% finished.

First crop alfalfa hay cutting is 68% finished, and the all-hay condition is 81% good to excellent.
