Southern Minnesota gets weekend soaking

Weekend rains that lingered into this morning have saturated fields across Minnesota.

Southeast Minnesota farmer Ed McNamara grows corn and soybeans in Goodhue County.

“Starting Saturday evening, we picked up four and-a-half inches of rain (from this event).”

He tells Brownfield he finished planting last week.

“And I’ve been looking for some rain to moisten up the top. We got some rain after planting, but only about a quarter of an inch. So this pretty well soaked into that top three to four inches that we had.”

South-central Minnesota farmer Kevin Paap, the current president of Minnesota Farm Bureau, says in Blue Earth County they received around two and-a-half inches of rain.

In southwest Minnesota, Lake Benton farmer Bob Worth tells Brownfield they picked up “a perfect” inch and-a-half.  American Soybean Association president Bill Gordon of Worthington reports up to three inches of rainfall.
