South Dakota planting conditions vary

The planting pace has been slow for some farmers in central and northern South Dakota.

Reno Brueggeman of Miller tells Brownfield, “My area here we have caught almost 10 inches of moisture in the last 30 days.”

But, he says progress has been better in some areas of the state, depending on conditions. “You get from about our area north and there are some people that haven’t turned a wheel yet,” Brueggeman said. “There is a deep concern about late planted corn getting in up in that northern part of the state.”

Brueggeman says very few acres of soybeans have been planted on his farm because corn stalks are holding a lot of moisture.
