South Dakota corn 82% good to excellent, 84% for soybeans

South Dakota farmers took advantage of good weather last week.

The latest USDA crop progress report says with nearly six days suitable for fieldwork, corn planting is now mostly done and soybean planting is at 92 percent.

Corn emergence, at 90 percent, is well ahead of last year’s 28 percent and the five-year average of 77 percent.

Eighty-two percent of the state’s corn acreage is in good to excellent condition.

Soybean emergence is ahead of normal at 67 percent, with 84 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.

Spring wheat is 96 percent emerged, with 64 percent rated good to excellent.

Winter wheat is 51 percent headed, and the condition is 78 percent good to excellent.
