South Dakota adds nearly $7 billion to ag sales in five years: Report

A new report shows a $6.9 billion increase in South Dakota agriculture sales in five years. The report, based partly on the 2017 Ag Census, says South Dakota’s agriculture sales grew from $25.6 billion in 2014, to an estimated $32.5 billion in 2019. The South Dakota Department of Agriculture report says agriculture represents about a third of total South Dakota sales.

The report cites South Dakota’s significant amount of crop and livestock production, as well as processing that adds value to many South Dakota commodities. It says almost a quarter of South Dakota jobs, more than 132,000 of them, are connected to agriculture.
