Some weather issues in Iowa during February

Iowa saw a wide range of temperatures in February.

The USDA says the month was fairly mild, even with temperatures across the state ranging from below zero to above 50 degrees and while northern parts of Iowa are still have snow cover, snow has melted in other areas.

Hay supplies are adequate and calving and lambing are underway, but muddy feedlot conditions have been a challenge for some producers.

Grain movement was normal and there were a few reports of grain stored on-farm going out of condition.

Some producers were able to apply lime and dry fertilizer.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
