Solutions from the Land touts agriculture at COP27

The president of Solutions from the Land says agriculture plays a critical role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Ernie Shea tells Brownfield the organization sent a group of farmers to the recent United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt to help educate global leaders on the environmental benefits of farming.

“Sharing the good news that sustainably managed farms, ranches, and woodlands are delivering the outcomes that the climate convention needs,” Shea said.

He says they want to help change the narrative about agriculture.

“Agriculture has not had an appropriate position within the climate convention to be recognized as a major solution platform,” Shea said. “It’s often talked about from the standpoint of being a problem. Greenhouse gas emissions from animal agriculture is always front and center.”

Shea says farmers are focusing on climate-smart practices that sequester carbon and utilize renewable liquid fuels that reduce emissions.
