Solid week for wheat export inspections

The USDA says wheat export inspections as of the week ending August 8th continue to outpace the previous marketing year, but late in their marketing year, corn, sorghum, and soybean inspections lag. The 2019/20 marketing year for wheat got underway June 1st and starts September 1st for beans, corn, and sorghum.

Wheat inspections came out at 688,978 tons, up 272,801 from the week ending August 1st and 201,579 higher than the week ending August 9th, 2018. The top weekly destinations were Japan and Mexico. A couple of months into the 2019/20 marketing year, wheat inspections are 4,934,971 tons, compared to 3,866,049 in 2018/19.

Corn was reported at 703,183 tons, 57,508 more than the previous week, but 569,977 less than this time last year. Mexico and Japan were the primary destinations. With less than a month left in 2018/19, corn inspections are 45,630,024 tons, compared to 54,07,741 late in 2017/18.

Soybeans were pegged at 944,238 tons, a decrease of 88,636 from the week before, but an increase of 362,679 from a year ago. China was the biggest single destination, followed by Pakistan. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 43,325,866 tons, compared to 53,952,473 last year.

Sorghum totaled 82,733 tons, a jump of 65,337 on the week and 82,061 on the year. China and Mexico were the leading destinations. 2018/19 sorghum inspections are 1,940,258 tons, compared to 4,895,510 in 2017/18.
