Solid week for sorghum export inspections

The USDA says sorghum export inspections for the week ending June 11th were more than what’s needed to meet projections for the current marketing year. The 2020/21 marketing year got underway June 1st for wheat, while 2019/20 runs through the end of August for corn, sorghum, and soybeans.

Wheat came out at 444,031 tons, down 33,205 from the week ending June 4th, but up 61,361 from the week ending June 13th, 2019. The top destinations for the week were the Philippines and Mexico. Less than two weeks into the 2020/21 marketing year, wheat inspections are 657,501 tons, compared to 853,436 towards the outset of 2019/20.

Corn was reported at 910,495 tons, 250,982 lower than the previous week, but 232,471 higher than this time last year. Japan and Mexico were the leading destinations. In the final quarter of the 2019/20 marketing year, corn inspections are 30,583,120 tons, compared to 40,857,127 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 376,323 tons, 102,271 more than the week before, but 304,047 less than a year ago. The primary destinations were Egypt and China. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 36,144,746 tons, compared to 35,649,452 last year.

Sorghum totaled 222,400 tons, an increase of 26,298 on the week and 218,731 on the year. China was the biggest single destination, followed by New Zealand. 2019/20 sorghum inspections are 3,738,487 tons, compared to 1,469,358 in 2018/19.
