Solid growing season pace in western Iowa

A western Iowa farmer says crop conditions look good in his area.

Former NCGA president Kevin Ross tells Brownfield his Pottawattamie County farm benefited from two inches of rain. “A lot of the early corn is knee high or better, and a lot of stuff is really starting to move and get canopied,” Ross said. “I think in another week, a lot of these narrow-row beans will be canopied as well.”

He says they’ve been fortunate to miss recent severe weather events. “Over the next couple of weeks, we have that window where the corn is growing really fast,” Ross said. “Hopefully, we can be spared of any bad wind events through that.”

Ross says the growing season’s pace isn’t far off from recent years.
