Soil moisture factors into 2023 crop decisions

Soil moisture could dictate some decisions for corn and soybean growers.

“Looking at subsoil moisture I think is a very important key thought process in how we approach this upcoming growing season.”

He tells Brownfield drought has been a problem in consecutive years for parts of the Midwest.

“So looking at that, I think we need to take into consideration even if we do get some rain events this spring, how long it could actually take for root development for some of our crops to get from Point A to Point B.”

He says growers in drought-affected regions might be considering varieties with more drought tolerance.
