Snow then warmer Missouri wx this weekend

Snow is forecast in much of Missouri tonight which is not unheard of this time of year. University of Missouri climatologist Pat Guinan.

“We could have a fairly significant snow event across far northern Missouri and southern Iowa.”

In an MU Extension online meeting about field crops, Pat Guinan says there could be one to three inches of snow in northern Missouri overnight, with four or more in southern Iowa.

Guinan says April precipitation has been somewhat below normal, “Especially across the eastern half of Missouri, northwest tip of the state. They’ve seen less than a half inch over parts of east central and southeast Missouri, so perhaps an opportunity to catch up on that total or deficit that we’ve seen so far for the month.”

Guinan says a turnaround is coming, “It does look like as the weekend begins, finally we’re going to start rebounding back to warmer more seasonable conditions.”

Temperatures in Missouri this week have been 20 to 25 degrees below normal. Soil temperatures over the past few days in the state range from the upper 40s in northern Missouri, mid-50s in central and parts of southern Missouri, with the Bootheel soil temps in the upper 50s into the 60s.
