Smithfield’s Monmouth to resume operations Saturday

Smithfield Foods reportedly will resume pork-processing operations at its Monmouth facility on Saturday.  According to the Review Atlas, employees on the production floor, maintenance, plant services, and animal foods will return on Saturday, and employees of the cold side will return on Monday.

The announcement comes after President Trump signed the executive order invoking the Defense Production Act.  The company says it has been quick to adopt a series of processes, protocols, and protective measures that follow, and in many cases exceed the strict guidance of the CDC and OSHA.  And is providing team members with abundant personal protective equipment, including masks and face shields, has implemented mass thermal scanning, and installed physical barriers on its production floors and in break areas.

The facility had originally suspended operations for two weeks last Saturday due to COVID-19.
