Smithfield settles with plaintiffs in case upheld by appeals court

Smithfield Foods’ reportedly has settled with plaintiffs in a case upheld by a federal appeals court on Thursday. The court upheld the 2018 jury verdict in a case against three Smithfield Foods’ North Carolina hog operations but said the district court incorrectly calculated the monetary awards.

In 2019, the American Farm Bureau, National Pork Producers Council, and related North Carolina groups asked an appeals court to overturn a $50 Million dollar nuisance judgement against Kinlaw Farms in North Carolina – which was then reduced to around $3-Million.

The plaintiffs are neighbors of hog operations who sued Smithfield over the odors and noise coming from the plants.

  • So now what if Smithfield foods now files a complaint against the farmers in the area for some complaints . Soon the lawyers will own the farms and their own butcher plant .
