Slow pace of export inspections continues

The USDA reports that as of the week ending December 7th, corn, soybean, and wheat export inspections for the 2017/18 marketing year remain behind the respective paces for 2016/17, primarily because of an increase in competition for sales.

Wheat came out at 316,867 tons, down 94,107 from the week ending November 3th and 128,569 lower than the week ending December 8th, 2016. Halfway through the 2017/18 marketing year, wheat inspections are 13,073,264 tons, compared to 14,106,397 in 2016/17.

Corn was reported at 658,403 tons, 53,274 more than the previous week, but 213,900 less than this time last year. A quarter into the marketing year, corn inspections are 8,536,378 tons, compared to 14,623,561 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 1,229,817 tons, a decline of 572,788 from the week before and 614,375 below last year. For the marketing year to date, soybean inspections are 24,086,444 tons, compared to 27,950,761 a year ago.

Sorghum inspections totaled 150,651 tons. That’s a decrease of 113,382 tons on the week and 76,767 on the year. 2017/18 sorghum inspections are 1,230,701 tons, compared to 1,349,066 in 2016/17.
