Slight increase in apple production

apples3The U.S. Apple Association is forecasting a slightly larger crop this year.

The organization expects a three percent increase in production to 246 million bushels. Washington is predicted to harvest 61 percent of the national crop, Michigan and New York round out the top three with just over 10 percent each.

Michigan’s apple production is estimated to increase seven percent to 31 million bushels, because of new higher-density orchards coming into production, and could surpass New York apple production for the first time.
