Senior swine exhibitor is champion in final run

County fair season is in full swing across the Midwest marking a special time for youth livestock projects. For one county fair exhibitor, it was a little extra special.

Montgomery County Fair exhibitor Annie Robinson won champion on-foot market hog in her last year as a youth showman. She tells Brownfield it was a family affair.

“Showing pigs has always been a family tradition,” she said. “It started in 1955 with my grandpa and it just, kind of, took off from there.”

Robinson said she’s no stranger to the show ring with her first show coming in the Lone Star state.

“As far back as I remember, it was Belton, Texas and I was, probably, about five [years old].”

Robinson will be attending the University of Missouri in the fall, majoring in food science and nutrition, which she hopes to apply to the family pork and beef business.

“I’d like to come back to the farm, maybe, someday and see how wee can get our meet out to more people because it’s lean and healthy,” Robinson said.

Robinson’s purebred yorkshire barrow, Hank “the Tank”, placed second overall and will sell during the fair’s auction Thursday evening.
