Senator discusses agriculture challenges

The agriculture industry continued to face challenges in 2022.

U.S. Senator Mike Braun says ag input prices and availability are a concern with the ongoing supply chain disruptions.

“Agriculture has been a challenge to say the least over the last two years. I think most farmers were happy that they actually got their crop in the ground and got all the resources they needed and scrambled to do so in 2022. Some of those resources might even be a little harder to get ahold of 2023. Then there’s always the volatility of pricing. Thank goodness crop prices have been strong, but I think there is a lot of uncertainty because a lot of inputs you need are in places having trouble.”

The Indiana Republican says that will likely continue in 2023.

“There will still be an atmosphere of some uncertainty and wondering if the board is going to stay there where the prices need for what appears to be another expensive year for inputs and supplies in general,” he says.

But, Braun says he expects to see longer-term changes to address the supply chain.
