Senate Finance Committee to vote September 7th on USTR nominee
The Senate Finance Committee will vote next month on the nomination of Doug McKalip as chief ag trade negotiator.
If voted favorably out of committee September 7th, the nomination will go before the full Senate for confirmation.
Finance Committee member Chuck Grassley says McKalip is well qualified.
“And most importantly, to speed it along. We badly need new leadership in this position.”
During a call with ag reporters Tuesday, the Iowa Republican also called for a confirmation hearing for USDA undersecretary for trade nominee Alexis Taylor.
“Farmers depend on trade, and I’ve had multiple conversations during my town halls with farmers who are concerned about the lack of aggressiveness in pursuing free trade agreements.”
Grassley says 19 months into this administration is far too long for these key roles to not be filled.
