Sen. Hawley outlines farm bill priorities

A U.S. Senator from Missouri says a strong farm safety net is needed in the 2023 Farm Bill.

Republican Josh Hawley tells Brownfield producers have been battling higher input prices and changing market conditions.

“The key things is to give our farmers certainty so they can plant with confidence and so they can plan ahead,” he said. “That means making sure the commodity price support program continues.”

He says maintaining affordable crop insurance is another priority.

“I want to be careful here about overhauling something that I think is working, but I think the key thing is to tweak both of those programs and make sure that they’re providing a level of support and dependability.”

Hawley says the Risk Management Agency should expand planting dates for all insurable commodities.
