SE Minnesota farmer done with soybeans, now on to harvesting corn

A farmer in southeast Minnesota is pleased with harvest results to this point.

Ben Storm of Dover says all his soybeans are out.

“We had a couple rain delays in the beans, otherwise we probably would’ve been done a little bit earlier. On to corn (now), it’s dry and we’re just kind of getting rolling the past couple days.”

He tells Brownfield test weights from his first cornfield were pushing 60 pounds.

“I was very impressed with that. The moisture was around 17 (percent) to 17 and-a-half. The one I’m on now, the field average is 15.8. But it’s been anywhere from 15 to 17.”

Storm says soybean yields were extremely variable, which he attributes to moisture and soil type.  He calls corn yields really good so far.
