SD spring wheat harvest picks up pace

Wheat harvest continues in South Dakota.

USDA says spring wheat harvest is 38% complete with conditions rated 36% fair. 87% of South Dakota’s winter wheat is harvested, ahead of average, but in line with last year. Oats are also being harvested, more than halfway complete at the end of the first full week in August.

South Dakota’s corn condition is rated 56% good to excellent with 38% in dough stage and 3% of the crop dented. Soybean conditions in South Dakota are rated 55% good to excellent with 57% of the soybeans setting pods.

Sorghum conditions are rated 61% good to excellent with 83% of the crop headed and 17% of sorghum coloring. Sunflower conditions are rated 48% good to excellent with 39% of the crop blooming.

Pasture and rangeland conditions in South Dakota are 53% good to excellent.
