SD farmers start corn planting

USDA says South Dakota’s planting progress continues to lag, but farmers finally started planting corn the last week of April.

One percent of the state’s corn crop is planted compared to the five-year average of 10%. Spring wheat planting is 17% complete, an increase of 13 percentage points from the previous week.

Winter wheat conditions in South Dakota are rated 22% good to excellent, worse than the previous week when it was rated 29% good to excellent.

Twenty-eight percent of oats are planted with 2% of the crop emerging. There were three days suitable for fieldwork.
