Sales of soybeans, corn, and wheat lower

Export sales slid slightly for most major commodities in the first week of October, according to this week’s Export Sales report from the USDA.

Sales for soybeans, corn, and wheat were all down from the previous week. However, China was the top buyer for soybeans, making its first purchase of beans in nearly a month.

Rice sales dropped significantly, while cotton saw a solid increase with Pakistan and Bangladesh as the top buyers.

Pork and beef export sales were both just below recent weeks with Japan and South Korea the top buyers for beef, while Mexico and China topped the list for pork.

Several factors impact export sales from week to week, the value of the US dollar and concerns about slowing economies can both significantly impact sales.

The next set of supply and demand numbers from the USDA comes out November 9th.
