Rynda crowned 69th Princess Kay

There’s a new official ambassador for Minnesota’s dairy industry.

Rachel Rynda of Le Sueur County was crowned the 69th Princess Kay of the Milky Way on the eve of the Minnesota State Fair Wednesday night.

“I was absolutely speechless, it was just a fantastic experience. And I’m just so excited to be serving Minnesota dairy farmers as Princess Kay.”

She says she’s looking forward to meeting fairgoers over the next two weeks and sharing her dairy story with them.

“When I was little, my favorite chore was to feed the bottle calves. So mom would put the bottle in my hands and we’d go off to feed the calves, and it’s still one of the chores that I do to this day.”

And Rynda tells Brownfield dairy farmers are the backbone of many Minnesota communities.

“They do so much for us and give us so much, sometimes we don’t realize how valuable they are and what they do for us.”

The new Princess Kay spent nearly eight hours Thursday sitting in a rotating cooler in the Dairy Building to have her likeness sculpted in a 90-pound block of butter.
