Rural COVID-19 cases growing faster than urban

A new study published April 3, 2020 says the rate of COVID-19 infection is growing faster in rural areas than urban. According to Penn State, while the disease arrived later in rural areas, the case load in rural America is doubling every two to three days.

The study says, “Rural communities have more older residents with chronic diseases, who are more susceptible to viral diseases. In comparison to metro areas, non-metro area residents have a higher rate of heart and chronic lower respiratory diseases and cancer and are more likely to smoke.”

Rural COVID19 cases are still far behind urban cases on a per-capita basis.
