Ricketts praises finalization of U.S.-Japan agreement

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts spoke at the annual meeting of Nebraska Cattlemen in Kearney.

Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says the finalization of the U.S.-Japan trade agreement is great news, especially for Nebraska.

“This is a big deal because Japan is our number one market for beef—412 million dollars last year—and even with these high tariffs, our beef exports to Japan last year were up 11 percent,” Ricketts says. “So we know there’s a great demand for our high quality U.S. beef in that Japanese market.”

Ricketts says that 412 million dollars in beef sales to Japan last year represented 29 percent of Nebraska’s total beef exports.

Ricketts spoke with Brownfield this week at the Nebraska Cattlemen’s annual meeting in Kearney.
